Niall Horan Made His Own Version of Gwen’s “Shelton-Stefani” Necklace (With a Twist)
Maybe some fashion statements are better left unspoken.
Who knew Niall Horan could be such a crafty Coach? Fresh off taking Season 23 standout Gina Miles to the top of The Voice in his debut season, he’s now making waves (or maybe just tiny ripples) as the show’s newest fashion tastemaker, putting a decidedly Niall-esque spin on the famously blinged-out name neckwear that fellow Coach Gwen Stefani has sported in seasons past.
Gwen caused a minor internet sensation last year (and even before that) when she donned her sentimental name necklace — a bespoke gold number featuring “Stefani” and “Shelton” in matching scripts to commemorate her marriage to longtime former Coach Blake Shelton. It’s a look that must have caught Niall’s eye right along with everyone else, because he’s now attempting to imitate it… or, at least, to put his own low-fi twist on the whole name-necklace concept.
Niall Horan goes for bead bling with “Shelton-Stefani” necklace homage
Not one to be bothered with a time-consuming trip to an actual jeweler, Horan sprung for the quick-and-dirty homemade approach after deciding to copy Gwen’s idea with a knock-off name necklace of his own. Showing up to the Season 24 set beaming with pride at his crafty new creation, he pulled Stefani aside to peep his cheesy new name necklace made of beads — complete with the addition of a third name (his own, of course!) — all in the hope of earning her full seal of approval.
What Niall hilariously earned instead was a big ol’ dose of humility. “Oh my God — you are so stupid!” Gwen teased after spying his bead-bling abomination. “I got these made!” Horan protested, sensing that his sophomore-season Coaches’ homage wasn’t about to set any new fashion trends. “I’ve got ‘Stefani,’ because look, you’ve got ‘Stefani!’ I’ve got ‘Shelton …and ‘Horan.’ …It’s what the kids are doing these days!”
Yeah, none of Niall’s more seasoned Coaching colleagues on The Voice were having any of that. “It should have been a nicer necklace,” groaned John Legend, clearly unimpressed with Horan’s amateur attempt at elegance, “if you’re gonna copy what she’s doing!”
At least Niall’s not competing for style points as things move beyond the Blind Audition stage and into the Artist-versus-Artist heart of the contest. That’s probably a good thing, too… at least where haute couture’s concerned. “He’s just not as this level, okay?!” joked Gwen, effectively slamming the door shut on Horan’s short-lived jewelry-modeling career.
