Despite the fact that he's no longer a Coach, Blake Shelton's presence still looms large on NBC's The Voice. How could it not when he helped build the show into what it is today as one of the original quartet of chair-revolving musical superstars?

While One Direction alumnus and Season 23 victor and Coach Niall Horan made claim after claim that Blake provided him with a plethora of sneaky tips and tricks to gain team members at any cost — including the ol' foam finger ploy — Shelton himself attempted to set the record straight with a voice recording message sent to his wife: returning Coach Gwen Stefani (this is her seventh time as Coach).

In a moment of down-time on Monday evening's Season 24 premiere, she played the brief communique: "Niall is a liar." Upon hearing this accusation about his inability to tell the truth, Horan burst into laughter.

Niall Horan laments Blake Shelton's departure from The Voice

"I'm going to miss him [Shelton]," Horan, who the competition series on his first go-around as Coach, told People. "He is not one of those famous friends, in my eyes. I think if I had met him outside of The Voice, I would have probably been friends with him anyway. Weirdly enough, we've got a lot in common, we’re quite similar people. Though not in dress sense."

Who are the judges on Season 24 of The Voice?

In addition to Horan and Stefani, Season 24 also features the vocal expertise of Judges John Legend and Reba McEntire. Legend is no stranger to The Voice, having enjoyed a chair from Seasons 16-22. Reba, meanwhile, has never served as a Coach before, although she did pop up numerous times since the first season as a guest and mentor.

"It's a lot of pressure, because nobody can replace Blake Shelton. He's a huge personality and a wonderful person. So I'm just getting in there trying to have fun and represent country music as best I can," she said during an interview with Newsweek 

She continued: "It's a well-oiled machine, so getting in at this time is marvelous. Everybody knows the game plan, from the crew, the producers. Everybody on the show is so nice, so sweet, and have been so helpful. I'm loving it."

New episodes of The Voice air on NBC every Monday and Tuesday 8 p.m. EST before hitting Peacock the next day. Season 23 (the final go-around for Shelton) can also be found on Peacock if you want to revisit last season.
