This 'Looming Question' Could Stop Brett From Finding New Love on Chicago Fire

We just want Brett to be happy!

Mikami Gets Emotional About Losing Hawkins | NBC’s Chicago Fire

The latest Chicago Fire midseason finale left fans with many questions—including, "What is the future of Brett's (Kara Killmer) love life?"

How to Watch

Watch Chicago Fire Wednesdays at 9/8c on NBC and next day on Peacock.

Our beloved medic is still reeling from the breakup heard 'round the world with Casey (Jesse Spencer), but she has dipped her toes back in the dating pool—namely with Dylan (Christopher Allen), a sweet man she meets at the hospital who runs his own bar and has a sweet connection to Hawkins (Jimmy Nicholas). Even though Dylan is great, viewers still have a soft spot for Casey—and, who knows, maybe Brett herself still does, too.

That ambiguity, Fire co-showrunner Andrea Newman says, could get in the way of Brett finding new love—with Dylan or anyone else. “Brett is 'gonna have a lot of fun dating going forward,” Newman tells TV Insider. “She’s 'gonna have some magical times dating, but there’s always the looming question of, Was Casey the love of her life? And will that make it impossible to find that level of love again?”

The answer to that remains to be seen. However, it's possible Brett isn't looking for love right now; maybe she is just looking for fun. Or perhaps she wants to focus on other parts of her life—which would align with what Killmer told NBC Insider a few months ago.

"It’ll be interesting to see her really dedicate herself to her career," Killmer said. "And I think we’ve always seen Sylvie in a relationship. We’ve always seen her in a romance. She’s a hopeless romantic, but I think it's important to see her come into her own and focus on her own things. Friendships and her career, not just her love life. I’m really excited about being able to explore all of that."

Chicago Fire Season 11 will return with new episodes on Wednesday, January 4. Get your fix by watching previous Chicago Fire episodes now on Peacock.
