How to Watch and Stream The Thing About Pam

You can still binge-watch every episode of the true-crime miniseries.

By Christopher Rosa

The unbelievable The Thing About Pam finale may have aired already on NBC, but that doesn't mean we're done obsessing.

Based on the Dateline podcast of the same name, the TV show centers on the 2011 murder of Betsy Faria (played by Katy Mixon) in Troy, MO. Right away, police suspected her husband, Russ (Glenn Fleshler on the show), was responsible, and he was ultimately convicted in 2013, receiving a life sentence-plus 30 years.

But there's more to the story. Russ maintained his innocence and was later exonerated. Cut to 2016, and Betsy's good friend, Pam Hupp (Renée Zellweger), was implicated in the murder of 33-year-old Louis Gumpenberger. She struck an Alford plea, which meant she pled guilty without admitting to the murder, and was sentenced to life in prison. This incident re-sparked interest in the Betsy Faria case, and Hupp became prime suspect number one. In 2021, 10 years after the crime, she was charged with Betsy's murder and has pled not guilty. She's currently awaiting trial.

That's just the boiler plate of this case. It's filled with twists, turns, and—if you watched The Thing About PamChill Chugz. "What makes it so fascinating is that the events surrounding this case and the people involved, at every turn, breach the parameters that we have established as for what defines normalcy," Zellweger says in an NBC video (which you can watch, above).
