Kate McKinnon and Pete Davidson Team Up for "Mayo Cat" SB LVIII Commercial

In Hellman's strange "Mayo Cat" commercial, SNL alum Davidson and cat-lover McKinnon are both in one talented kitty's life.

By Samantha Vincenty

Both Kate McKinnon and Pete Davidson have been very busy since leaving Saturday Night Live at the end of Season 47. And while one alum appeared in the Barbie movie and the other starred in parody of the Barbie movie—and they both returned to host SNL in Season 49—their paths actually crossed in a high concept (read: strange) Super Bowl LVIII commercial.

How to Watch

Watch Saturday Night Live Saturdays at 11:30/10:30c on NBC and next day on Peacock.

As McKinnon's fans know, she is a cat lover beyond her recurring "Whiskers R' We" sketch on SNL, and has a cat of her own named Nino Positano. This made her the perfect co-star in Hellmann's "Mayo Cat" ad, which aired during the Kansas City Chiefs-San Francisco 49ers matchup (or as some of us called it, the Usher concert)

The commercial also featured Davidson poking fun at his own high-profile romantic life, which he'd previously joked about during SNL "Weekend Update" visits.

A split of Kate Mckinnon and Pete Davidson

The ad, which appears to carry a message about avoiding food waste (by mixing your leftovers up with plenty o' mayonnaise), finds McKinnon evaluating the contents of her fridge.

"What am I gonna make with this," McKinnon muses. That's when the cat sitting across from her lifts a paw and offers a meow that sounds a lot like she's saying "mayo!"

"Holy ----, you can talk!" McKinnon exclaims, and we see a montage of the two finding fame on morning shows, at book sightings, and in lecture halls. The highlight is a hilariously awkward photo involving McKinnon, the cat, and too many jars of mayo.

When Pete Davidson rolls up to a red carpet holding "Mayo Cat" as his date, we know the feline's made the big time (Davidson gives a coy nod when the press asks if its serious). Alas, their split makes the cover of People.

"You lasted longer than most," McKinnon cracks.

Is that really Kate McKinnon's cat in the "Mayo Cat" ad?

No.

Kate McKinnon's cat is a black-and-white cutie named Nino Positano. And while he didn't appear in the Hellmann's ad, Nino's no stranger to the camera: The two co-starred in a quarantine edition of "Whiskers R We" during the April 25, 2020 SNL: At Home episode.
