Blake Shelton Used a Niall Horan Doppelgänger to Troll Him on His Birthday

The two The Voice Coaches have been known to frequently tease each other.

By Jackie Manno

September 13 marked Niall Horan's birthday, so, of course, his friend, Blake Shelton, had to make the perfect playful jab at him.

How to Watch

Watch The Voice Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c on NBC and next day on Peacock.

"Happy birthday to my good friend @NiallOfficial! Have a great one buddy!" Shelton wrote in a message on X, formerly known as Twitter, alongside a pic. The shoutout seems standard enough until you inspect closer and realize that the picture Shelton posted isn't actually of Horan, but of Horan's doppelgänger, actor and fellow Irishman Allen Leech! They do look a lot alike, after all!

See Shelton's message (and the resemblance between Leech and Horan) for yourself here.

Does Shelton need glasses, or was he just messing with Horan? Knowing Shelton, we're sure he knew exactly what he was doing!

Happy birthday, Niall!

Niall Horan talks working with Blake Shelton on The Voice

In an interview with NBC Insider, Horan opened up about his experience working with Blake Shelton on The Voice.

“It's been amazing to work with Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton. Meeting them for the first time, the bond that I’ve grown with them has been amazing. It's been so funny to dive into that Southern sense of humor with them and see the stuff that goes on behind the scenes. It's been hilarious,” he said.

Horan continued, “Blake, he’s like a dad to me. Y’know, he’s really helped me during the show. I’ve really enjoyed his company and watching him has been a real honor.”

Then, in an interview with NBC's Mark Barger, Horan elaborated on the dynamic of his working relationship with Shelton.

“Me and the cowboy became good friends very quick,” Horan said, referring to Shelton. “We realized we're very similar people. For the good and the bad. He's so funny."

In another chat with NBC Insider, Horan opened up about how he's going to adjust to Shelton's absence on the Coaches panel for Season 24. "I'm going to miss him. He is not one of those famous friends, in my eyes. I think if I had met him outside of The Voice, I would have probably been friends with him anyway," he said. "Weirdly enough, we've got a lot in common, we’re quite similar people. Though not in dress sense."
