All About Sterling K. Brown's Wife and Kids

The This Is Us star is many things: a Pearson (in our hearts), Oscar nominee, and family man.

By Elizabeth Logan

Sadly, he's not actually a Pearson IRL.

How to Watch

Watch This Is Us episodes on NBC.

Though Sterling K. Brown won over millions of hearts as one-third of This Is Us' Big Three, in real life, Brown has two sisters, two brothers, and two kids of his own. Read on to find out all about his close-knit family.

About Sterling K. Brown's wife, Ryan Michelle Bathé

Both natives of St. Louis, Missouri, Brown and Bathé met at Stanford University, where they dated on and off, and both attended NYU's Tisch School of the Arts for an MFA in acting, where they were members of the class of 2001. The pair eloped in Santa Barbara in 2006, then had a larger wedding ceremony in 2007.

"The best thing about it was the food," Bathé said of their nuptials. "Because, you know, OK look, can I just say sometimes you go to weddings, and you get the winner-winner chicken dinner and you're like, 'I pay. OK, it's fine.' But I wanted people to remember their experience, their culinary experience. So I was happy about that. The food was good."

Bathé has a successful acting career of her own and even appeared in a handful of This Is Us episodes, though she didn't interact with her husband, playing the mom of one of younger Randall's friends. But they did get to share the screen on Army Wives in 2012!

The two are parents to two boys, welcoming Andrew in a "surprise" home birth in 2011, and Amaré in 2015.

Brown reflected on the bittersweet journey of fatherhood in a poignant Instagram post in 2022, writing, "When I was a kid, my mom would frequently say, '18 years goes by real fast.' I think she knew that once I graduated, life would take me someplace other than home. And there was joy for what the future would hold but also a bitter sweetness in knowing that our time under the same roof would be limited. Today, is the beginning of 6th grade and 1st grade. And I know exactly what my mom meant! #TimeFliesWhenYoureSurroundedByLove❤️."

"Fatherhood is everything to me, man," Brown previously told Salon. "The best role I had is the day my first son was born, and I got to call myself a father for the first time. I only had a dad for a limited amount of time—10 years—and to step into his shoes and pass on the love I had to my son is everything. I enjoy paternalist roles because I enjoyed the dad I had and who is still with me in my heart."
