What to know about "This is Halloween" from The Nightmare Before Christmas

Written by Oingo Boingo frontman Danny Elfman, "This is Halloween" is the opening song in Tim Burton's 1993 film. The song sets the scene in the movie, introducing the character's spooky lifestyle.

According to an interview Elfman gave with Variety in 2021, Disney was originally worried that the song was too scary for children.  "So to come back years later and to see families out there, and to be getting recordings of people’s kids who are 4 years old singing 'What’s This' or 'This is Halloween,' makes me really feel blessed," he told the outlet.

In 2006 the track was famously covered by Marilyn Manson and Panic! at the Disco for the film's special edition release of the soundtrack.
