Everything to Know About Usher's Wife and 4 Kids

The former The Voice Coach is a proud papa and a wonderful partner.

By Jackie Manno

Not only is former The Voice Coach Usher (Seasons 4 and 6) a mega-talented R&B superstar, he is a wonderful father and partner as well. He has managed to balance a massively successful Las Vegas residency and 2024 Super Bowl performance all while being present in the lives of his children and wife.

How to Watch

Watch The Voice Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c on NBC and next day on Peacock.

“I really want to be at every recital, [I] wanna be at every basketball game. I want to be at every step. And God willing, I’m able to instill very incredible valuable things, lessons that’ll help assist them when I’m not around, believe it or not, that’s when it actually applies. And it matters more than anything,” he told Us Weekly in 2023.

He also talked about how much he’s been committed to family in recent years while on The Late Show with James Corden in 2020. "I think everybody's had the opportunity to take a beat back and realize what really matters in this time — it's family. It is coming closer to your loved ones and appreciating the ones that you have while you have them," he insightfully said.

Below, learn more about some of Usher's most beloved family:

All about Usher's wife's Jen Goicoechea

Jen Goicoechea is a successful music executive who was raised in Miami and attended Full Sail University, where she studied recording arts. She then created her own management company called Boogs'N'Effect Management. She also worked for a nonprofit music organization called ASCAP, which helps recording Artists get fairly compensated for their royalties (via People).

Currently, Goicoechea is the senior vice president of A&R at Epic Records, which is owned by Sony. In 2020 and 2021, she was recognized by Billboard as being an “R&B/Hip-Hop Power Player” for her contributions to the music industry.

In 2019, Usher and Goicoechea went public with their relationship after being seen sharing a smooch backstage at a concert at the Hollywood Bowl, and have been going strong ever since.

In a November 2023 interview with People, Usher opened up about how much Goicoechea means to him.

"We have any amazing dynamic between our relationship where I'm able to be passionate still about what I do and have an incredible partner to work through some of the harder times as a young man dealing with children and dealing with the dynamic of how you communicate with them," he told the outlet. "I'm very happy, very fortunate to have an incredible friend, not just a partner.  She's my best friend and I love her."

When Usher announced his 2021-2023 Las Vegas Residency called "My Way - The Vegas Residency," Goicoechea posted a simple message to her beau: “I’m proud of you.” When Usher was on The Tamron Hall Show in 2022, he gushed about how much her support as a partner has helped him in his career.

“She has been there with me through my hardest times," he said. "She single handedly has been one the only ones that I can know unwaveringly has my back, as I have hers. I am very, very fortunate to be able to share this time of success with her, and our children together, and our life together. She is a forever partner. I think that the journey that I’m having, I wouldn’t be able to have had it without her support. She’s the manager, she’s literally one of the greatest partners I think I’ve ever had,” he said.

The couple officially tied the knot in Las Vegas in February 2024, right after Usher's halftime performance.

"We can confirm that Usher and Jennifer Goicoechea took the next step in their relationship and did get married on Sunday night in Las Vegas surrounded by close friends and family," a representative for Usher told People

All about Usher's four kids

Usher has four children: Usher “Cinco” Raymond V, 16; Naviyd Ely, 15; Sovereign Bo, 3; and Sire Castrello, 2.

Usher ''Cinco'' Raymond V

Cinco is Usher’s firstborn child, who he welcomed with his now ex-wife Tameka Foster, in 2007. Shortly before his birth, Usher talked to People about how he feels about becoming a father.

"I just want my son to fully be coherent and to be healthy, first and foremost," he said. "You can wish for a million and one things. But I hope that my son has the same energy I had as a child. Hopefully, he won't be as bad as me. I hope that he's just a healthy son."

When Cinco was 6 years old, he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. While Usher was speaking at the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in 2015, he talked about how his family is handling the diagnosis, and how he admires his son’s resilience throughout the whole process.

"A child that every day has to prick himself and has to be cautious of what he eats and also to carry this disorder around — that really is the type of bravery that we all aspire to have," he said (via ABC News).

When Cinco turned 14 in 2021, his dad posted a picture of his ultrasound, noting that he grew up to be a “rebel.”

Nowadays, Cinco is establishing some independence, as Usher told Tamron Hall in 2022 that his oldest son prefers to be called Cinco over Usher.

Naviyd Ely

Foster gave birth to Naviyd shortly after Cinco in 2008. Like his dad, Naviyd seems to be fond of music and has perfectionist tendencies. “He loves entertainment,” Usher told Tamron Hall. “Not only does he watch my shows, but he gives me critiques,” he said with a chuckle.

However, Usher has no problem with his son’s high standards when it comes to his performances. “If it's inspiration to him, then great. If it's making him feel compelled to be creative, then great,” he said.

When Naviyd turned 13 in 2021, Usher took to his Instagram page to share an adorable throwback picture of them smiling together and eating some French fries.

“NAVIYD!!! Turnin the Big 13!!! My Silent Partner, Creative Director, Always Full of Ideas… You’re 'The Good News' Wishing you the Happiest Birthday son!! Love DAD You are my favorite 13 year old,” he gushed in the caption.

Sovereign Bo

Fast-forward to 2020, and Usher welcomed his first daughter with Goicoechea. Sovereign Bo was born on September 2, and in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, Usher revealed that she arrived early.

“She was scheduled to be a Scorpio but decided she had a different plan. Libras, you know, they kinda have their minds made up about what they wanna do," he said proudly.

Usher informed fans of Sovereign’s arrival with a heartfelt Instagram post of the newborn gripping her dad’s finger in a beautiful moment.

"We are feeling blessed and full of love with the arrival of our beautiful baby girl, Sovereign Bo Raymond. 'Isn’t She lovely' by Stevie Wonder on repeat," he wrote in the caption.

In a 2021 interview with Extra, Usher explained the beautiful meaning behind Sovereign’s name, and how it already suits her personality perfectly.

"Sovereign, man, is such a beautiful word and name to me, you know, a supreme ruler is obviously the defined name," he said. "She's definitely ruling the household, but Sovereign Bo — Bo is at the end of it, so [she's] my little 'reign-bo.'

When Usher was on Good Morning America in 2021, he said that he loves “being a girl dad.”

Sire Castrello

A year later, Usher and Goicoechea welcomed their second child together, a boy named Sire. Hilariously, Usher told Ellen DeGeneres that he played “In Da Club” by 50 cent during Sire’s birth.

Sire already seems to be living up to his cool factor, as for his first birthday, his dad posted pictures of him wearing a suit and tie, Boss Baby style.

“Playtime is over,” Usher captioned the post.

Usher also opened up to People about his connection with his youngest. "Me and him have a really cool relationship. He's different than any of my other kids. I've managed to have a little code going with him when I talk to him and how we speak to each other. He makes me mush ... My new little boy, he's something special," he said.
