Camila Cabello Reveals She Auditioned for The Voice as an Artist Prior to Her Big Break
But the reason she ended up pursuing The X-Factor instead was priceless.
The Voice Coach Camila Cabello revealed some new information to NBC Insider about her days before fame — which even surprised her fellow Coaches.
While talking about getting her big break as a singer on another talent competition series, The X Factor, fellow Coach Blake Shelton inquired as to why Cabello didn’t choose to audition for The Voice instead. Then, just before the Season 22 premiere, the “Havana” singer dropped a bomb on everyone.
Was Camila Cabello a Contestant on The Voice?
“The truth is – I actually did audition for The Voice,” Cabello said, prompting an audible gasp from Gwen Stefani. “What?!” the "Cool" singer exclaimed.
“Did you really?!” Chimed in Shelton, equally as surprised. “Oh wow!" added John Legend.
If it came down to choosing a Coach, Cabello revealed she would have gone with either Voice alums Adam Levine or Christina Aguilera because she was drawn to pop and R&B, something that Shelton contested.
"You don't think of me when you think of pop?" Shelton asked cheekily.
"You're like: 'Country; I wanna stay in my country box!'" Cabello teased. "Unless I wanna switch genres right now? Uh, I don't know."
Why Camila Cabello auditioned for The X Factor
While she didn't end up competing on Team Adam or Team Christina, Cabello explained why she went the The X Factor: She was fueled by teenage fangirl love!
“I wanted to meet One Direction because I was in love with Harry Styles,” she explained.
Even though she appeared on the U.S. version of The X Factor, and Styles rose to fame on the U.K. edition, Cabello knew that their paths would cross eventually – and she turned out to be right. “I knew they were gonna perform there, and they did, they performed there literally second week of live shows,” she said.
Considering the intentions of her major life choice, things turned out well for Cabello. And her journey from her audition days has come full circle: Cabello returned to her talent competition series roots as a Coach on Season 22 of The Voice.
