On The Voice Season 22, Episode 4, which aired on Tuesday, September 27, we got a glimpse of the hilarious Coach group chat—and why John Legend left it.

How to Watch

Watch The Voice Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c on NBC and next day on Peacock.

OK, we should preface this by saying we don't with 100% certainty know that this is a real group chat—it could have just been a sketch for the show—but what went down was too funny to not recap.

Here's what happened: At the top of the episode, we saw Camila Cabello, Gwen Stefani, Blake Shelton, and John Legend all texting back and forth. Cabello and Stefani were in their Coach chairs ready to start filming, but Shelton and Legend were delayed. When the women asked what the hold-up was, Shelton said he was "in the John." A confused Legend replied and said Shelton wasn't with him, but he misunderstood the country singer's text. Shelton was making a joke and saying he was on the toilet, a.k.a the John. And that he'd be "flushing" the Coaches' dreams away.

All the Coaches laughed, but Legend couldn't help but give a little side-eye and text back to Shelton, "You are a child." Then, he swiftly left the group chat—as he should have!

Whether this was real or a stunt, let this be a lesson to all: Don't make puns about John Legend's name that he certainly has heard before many, many times.

That being said, for more hilarious moments like this, be sure to watch The Voice on NBC Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c and next day on Peacock. We promise great voices, performances, and, yes, probably a few more silly jokes.
