This John Legend Lookalike Had the Real-Life John Seeing Double on The Voice

Talakai and Legend are twins!

By Josh Weiss

The Voice had John Legend seeing double on Monday evening (October 3) thanks to a powerful Blind Audition from Talakai, a Contestant who looks as though he could be the Coach's long-lost twin.

How to Watch

Watch the Season 26 premiere of The Voice on Monday, September 23 at 8/7c on NBC and next day on Peacock.

The 34-year-old Sacramento resident — who is of Tongan and Samoan descent — was initially raised by his grandparents but was placed into the foster care system after they passed away.

"I was about 10 years old when I lost my family and my heritage, my culture. It was definitely traumatic for me," he explained just before to his Audition. "I've been in about 10 homes. I went through physical and mental abuse. Throughout that time, I would always turn to music and that helped me through those dark times."

Talakai (a.k.a the John Legend lookalike!) sings Sam Smith's "Stay With Me" for The Voice Season 24 Blind Auditions

Talakai performed a cover of Sam Smith's "Stay With Me," and it took less than 30 seconds for Legend to turn his chair around. "I'm looking at myself," the veteran Coach said once the soul-stirring rendition ended. "Like a taller, more handsome version of myself onstage."

He went on to add that while fans online will often send him photos of supposed John Legend lookalikes, none of them actually bear a striking resemblance to himself.

"Then I turn around and look at you — we have the same haircut. I'm like, 'He really, legitimately looks like me.' I turned pretty early because I loved the richness in your voice, the tone. I know for sure you have the ability to be so great on this show."

When it came time for the singer to choose his team — John or Reba — Legend urged him to "Come home!" and shouted that they were "Family!" No disrespect to the Queen of Country, but there was no contest here. Talakai naturally sided with his doppelgänger, and Ms. McEntire was completely understanding as the two posed together for a selfie.

"I got my twin on my side and honestly, I think we're gonna have a lot of fun together," Legend concluded.
