Outside of playing one of the most beloved detectives of all time as Law & Order: Special Victims Unit's Captain Olivia Benson, Mariska Hargitay is a proud mother of three kids — August, Amaya, and Andrew – alongside her husband and former SVU co-star Peter Hermann

How to Watch

Watch Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Thursdays on NBC and next day on Peacock.

On May 22, the Hargitay-Harmann family was spotted on an outing in NYC, posing for a few pictures on the red carpet for the 2023 Stuttering Association For The Young (SAY) Benefit Gala at The Edison Ballroom. It was a delight to see Hargitay enjoying some quality family time after wrapping Season 24 of SVU, and everyone was looking their spiffiest during the exciting event.

"SAY The Stuttering Association for the Young! SAY Love! SAY Joy! SAY Community!," the star wrote in an Instagram caption. "SAY Freedom to Speak! SAY The Right to be Heard! SAY Thank You for Your Beautiful Inspiring Extraordinary Important Magnificent Gala that Opens Hearts and Raises Awareness and Changes Lives! #loveyou"

Hargitay and Hermann looked dashing for the event, with the actress donning a mint green dress and Hermann repping a monochromatic suit. Hermann and Hargitay were honored to be inducted into SAY's Hall of Fame for their various philanthropic efforts.

The couple became parents for the first time in 2006, and as SVU fans may expect, Hargitay is quite the loving Mama Bear. She's said being a mother led her to gain an entirely new life perspective.

“You know, I think because I became a mom later in life, everything in life means more," Hargitay told Travelingmom in a 2022 interview. "Every day is deeper and richer and more soulful. Life is more sacred with him. Therefore, work is so much more now because I understand and value everything a little bit more.”

It's rare to see the entire Hargitay-Hermann family all together, but in December 2022, they had a blast during an impromptu trip to Disney World. Hargitay hosted EPCOT's Disney's Candlelight Procession, and it led to some truly heartwarming pics shared on Hargitay's Instagram.

She also chatted about the joys of raising a family of five with her husband in a March 2018 interview with People.

“The thing that’s made me a better parent is my kids. Because they taught me to really listen," Hargitay shared. "My husband is my North Star, and my kids are my teachers.”

“Our family is so perfect, or at least perfect for me. Together we’re just this whole, happy, joyful, chaotic, crazy unit," Hargitay continued. "I’ve never known anything that was more right ... The beauty is that families are made in so many different ways, and that was my reality as a child. Growing up, my family was made in such an interesting and unique way, and now I have that with my own family, and so I understand it," Hargitay concluded. "It’s been amazing.”
