While many Law & Order: Special Victims Unit fans tune into the show for the hard-hitting cases, another plot that has kept us on the edge of our seats is whether or not Detectives Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Elliot Stabler (Chris Meloni) will find love with each other. The police partners have been working together for over a decade, and Benson’s gentle compassion offers a necessary balance to Stabler’s no-nonsense attitude.

How to Watch

Watch Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Thursdays on NBC and next day on Peacock.

When Ice T, who plays Sergeant Odafin Tutuola, was asked by Entertainment Tonight about his personal opinion of whether or not the two should end up together, he seemed to be on the pro-romance side. “I don’t see why not” he remarked. "I thought it was kind of odd earlier because [Stabler] was married, but then his wife died."

An advocate for the will-they-won’t-they tension, Ice T said he believes the show will continue the air of mystery regarding Benson and Stabler’s relationship. “Maybe they’d rather let that hang on,” he said.

The actor went on to praise the way the show has still managed to keep us on our toes for over 24 seasons. “It's very interesting how they twist the plots and they make people stay intrigued with what’s going on next. Nothing but love to the writers of this and how they make it happen," he said.

To see what exactly the writers have in store next for Benson and Stabler, be sure to watch the epic three-hour Premiere Event involving the Law & Order, Law & Order: SVU, and Law & Order: Organized Crime teams. The action-packed drama will follow the forces joining together to expose an international crime ring and will premiere on Thursday, September 22 at 8/7c on NBC.

As always, watch Law & Order: SVU on NBC Thursdays at 9/8c and next day on Peacock.
