Brenda Lee Just Performed "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" Live Like It's 1958

The holiday legend brought the audience to its feet during NBC's Christmas at the Opry special.

The classics never go out of style, especially around the holidays.

With her song atop the charts over half a century after its release, Brenda Lee took the stage during NBC's special Christmas at the Opry to sing "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree." And she nailed it.

The song got the whole crowd in the dancing (and Christmas) spirit. Watching the performance will probably have the same effect on you. "I was 6 years old when this song was a hit. I'm 71 now looking at spry and beautiful Brenda Lee belting this song out like she did in 1958. It's bringing me to tears to see her looking so wonderful. God bless you Brenda and keep rockin' around that Christmas tree for years to come," reads one gushing comment on YouTube.

Watch, below.

What to know about "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" by Brenda Lee

The rockabilly banger was written by Johnny Marks, who also penned the classics "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" and "A Holly Jolly Christmas," and was recorded by Brenda Lee and released in 1958, when Lee was just 13 years old. The song entered the Billboard charts in the 1960s as Lee's career took off, then spiked in popularity again after it was used in the 1990 hit movie Home Alone.

In the Christmas seasons of 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022, it hit the number-two spot, finally hitting the top of the charts this year, 65 years after its release, a record-breaking gap between release and chart domination. Lee is also now the oldest person to have a number-one single; she turns 79 on December 11.
