In The Know Sneak Peek Showcases Mike Judge's Odd Movie Critic, Sandy

Mike Judge plays the culture critic, Sandy, on In The Know, created by him, Zach Woods and Brandon Gardner.

By Tyler McCarthy

Ahead of its highly anticipated premiere on Peacock, the upcoming adult animated series In The Know released a brief sneak peek showcasing a character voiced by legendary TV creator and voice actor, Mike Judge.

The series, created by Zach Woods (Silicon Valley, The Office), Brandon Gardner and Judge (Beavis and Butt-Head, Silicon Valley, King of the Hill), blends stop-motion animation and real-life celebrity interviews to depict the making of the fictional National Public Radio series “In The Know.” While its intrepid host, Lauren Caspian (Woods), is the man behind the microphone, the show comes together with the help of a ragtag group of loveable nimrods. Among those loveable nimrods is Judge’s Sandy, the culture critic for “In The Know.”

In this sneak peek clip for the upcoming series, which drops all six episodes exclusively on Peacock on January 25, viewers get to see Sandy in action showcasing his movie critic chops and how he’s, frankly, not quite right.

He opens by telling his listeners that he’s going to be diving into some “scalding-hot new releases” before discussing the movie Boyhood, which was released roughly a decade ago by director Richard Linklater (not Linkard Richlater, as Sandy read from his notecard). The film was famously shot between 2002 and 2013 so that the characters could age naturally and be depicted as older when the story called for it. To make the film, the cast would shoot some scenes annually before going on to do other things in the meantime.

However, Sandy seems to be under the impression that they were all forced to live, eat and sleep on set for 12 years. He goes on to assume that they were kept there through “the aid of fences and physical violence.” He then buttons his film corner by bidding farewell to his loyal audience of listeners before it is revealed that this is not his first farewell episode, nor will it be his last. His segment is weekly...

While he may certainly be the most enigmatic of the In The Know cast, Sandy is just one of many whose puzzling animated antics will cross paths with live-action celebrities like Kaia Gerber, Jonathan Van Ness, Ken Burns, Finn Wolfhard, Norah Jones, Tegan and Sara Quin, Nicole Byer, Roxane Gay, Mike Tyson, Jorge Masvidal and Hugh Laurie when the series premieres. Will Sandy’s movie reviews be the most confusing thing about him? Those curious will just have to wait and see.

Watch all six episodes of In The Know streaming exclusively on Peacock on January 25th.
