Kelly Clarkson is a mega Alanis Morissette fan, so who better to bring on The Kelly Clarkson Show to sing one of her greatest hits than Morissette herself?

During Morissette's appearance on the show, the two discussed the emotions behind the alt-rock song "You Oughta Know."

"I feel like this song is like my 'Since U Been Gone.' Like everywhere I go they want to hear this song. Cause the entire audience went crazy on tour. I mean you saw everyone unleash every bad relationship they've ever been through and channeled it," Clarkson said. "So what do you love about 'You Oughta Know' now? Its been so long since it was released. Do you still love singing it as much?"

"I do," ," Morissette responded. "I remember just having a vision of my landlord before Jagged Little Pill came out. [She] was lovely enough, we had a great interaction. And after 'You Oughta Know' was released, I came by to pick up some stuff, and she ran into me and she said 'I just that to tell you that I didn't like your music when it first came out, but and I got divorced, and now I love you."

Then, the two performed a stripped-down version of the song, with Clarkson harmonizing the high parts at the chorus.

The crowd cheered as a star-struck Clarkson dropped to her knees when the song was over. "Oh my god! That just happened!" she exclaimed.

Released off of Morissette's iconic 1995 album Jagged Little Pill, the song reached the number 6 position on the Billboard US Hot 100. It also won two Grammy Awards for Best Rock Song and Best Female Rock Vocal Performance. In 2021, Rolling Stone put it on the 103rd spot on its "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" list.

"It’s a devastated song, and in order to pull out of that despondency, being angry is lovely. I think the movement of anger can pull us out of things," she told Entertainment Weekly in 2015.
