Season 6, Episode 15 of This Is Us dropped a major bombshell: that Miguel (Jon Huertas) dies. His passing comes as Rebecca (Mandy Moore)'s Alzheimer's worsens, meaning the Big Three—and specifically Kate (Chrissy Metz)—are responsible for the Pearson matriarch's care.
But Miguel honored his vow to care for Rebecca through sickness and health to the end. Of course, fans have a special place in their hearts for Rebecca's relationship with Jack (Milo Ventimiglia), but they eventually grew to love her time with Miguel, as well.
Eventually being the operative word. Miguel was Jack's (Milo Ventimiglia) closest friend, after all, so how could he end up with his late BFF's wife? With each season, though, Rebecca and Miguel's love story made more and more sense. Particularly in Season 6, we've gotten a deeper look into their love story. Both found comfort in each other in the wake of Jack's death, eventually becoming best friends whose platonic relationship turned into much more. They tried to ignore their connection (for nearly 10 years), but one Facebook message changed it all.
"We have great chemistry, Mandy and I, and so to be able to really lean into that, it also just felt great," said Huertas in an interview with People. "We know that if we can experience that chemistry on camera that the audience will feel it at home. That's what we want to do as storytellers, from actors, writers, directors, we want to evoke a sense of emotional feeling from them that hopefully is equal to what the characters are going through."
