Pop music fans everywhere rejoiced when The Voice Season 22 revealed that Coach Camila Cabello's Battle Advisor is Charlie Puth. The pairing makes perfect sense. Both are chart-topping performers with unique styles all their own. But they're also incredibly busy—so how did one of the world's biggest pop stars lock down another mega-musician for a Battle Advisor gig?

How to Watch

Watch The Voice Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c on NBC and next day on Peacock.

Well, it happened at the last minute. "This literally came together, like, a day ago," Puth told Extra in mid-August, shortly after the Battle Advisors announcement went live.

A casual text exchange got the ball rolling. "I texted [his people]," Cabello said after initially thinking she texted Puth himself.

On why she went that route, Cabello said, "You don't ever want somebody to feel pressured and be like, 'No, I'm sorry. I can't.'" Puth echoed this sentiment, saying, "[Or being like], 'Oh, I would love to do that. Let me think about that.' But I really don't want to. But the thing is I actually really wanted to do [The Voice with Cabello]."

So, how did things go during filming? "I've been listening to [Cabello] offer such wonderful advice [to her Contestants]," Puth said. "Nobody on Team Camila is nervous. Everyone walks in and they're so relaxed because [Cabello] is almost motherly, in a way."

We'll see Puth and Cabello in action during The Voice Battle episodes. Season 22 kicks off Monday, September 19 at 8/7c on NBC, and Cabello will be joined by Coaches Gwen Stefani, Blake Shelton, and John Legend
