Kung Fu Panda 4's Po Leads Us on a Guided Meditation Like No Other

Unleash your inner Zen (and a few chuckles) ahead of the Kung Fu Panda 4 premiere with this guided meditation with Po.

By Grace Jidoun

Meditation helps us calm down, reduce anxiety, process worries, and… laugh? Leave it to lovable goofball Po (Jack Black) from Kung Fu Panda to bring a bit of Zen into our day and entertain us at the same time. DreamWorks Animation released this charming meditation video ahead of the long-awaited premiere of Kung Fu Panda 4, which opens in theaters nationwide on March 8, promising “more panda-monium than serenity.”

Why you should meditate with Kung Fu Panda

If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to have Jack Black as Po lead you on a guided meditation, here’s your chance to find out. The four-hour video is hilarious — and surprisingly calming. But don’t worry if you can’t sit still for more than 15 minutes. Jumping into the video at any point brings mindful breathing, soothing music, and funny musings by Po as he tries to connect with his inner self. Turns out, even fierce Kung Fu warriors get distracted by random thoughts (and, let’s be real, farts). When Po wonders, “How many inner voices do I have in there?” the reply is, “You don’t want to know.”

If guided meditations have been too out there or, frankly, boring in the past, prepare to settle in with “Be Calm and Po On.” We can’t think of a better way to introduce kids of all ages to this calming and beneficial practice.

What is Kung Fu Panda 4 all about?

Jack Black as Po in Kung Fu Panda 4

Almost a decade has passed since the dragon warrior and the “Furious 5” shook our worlds in Kung Fu Panda 3, and Po has evolved in new and interesting ways. After defeating world-class villains with his mesmerizing martial arts skills and sheer bravery in previous movies, Po must now dig deep on his journey of self-discovery. In Kung Fu Panda 4, he is chosen to become the Spiritual Leader of the Valley of Peace and must face a new nemesis: a shape-shifting chameleon (voiced by EGOT-winner Viola Davis) who has her eyes on Po’s Staff of Wisdom and will stop at nothing — including sorcery and magic — to get it.

That poses a bit of a challenge. Our favorite animated panda is a Kung Fu master and Dragon Warrior, not a spiritual leader, and we see in this meditation video that his mind wanders all over the place. His chants of “inner peace” morph into “Dinner please, with peas, in a sesame soy glaze.” As he slowly counts up to four, he can’t help but keep going: “5, 6, 7, 8, who do we appreciate? Po! Po!” he says, as he imagines adoring fans cheering for him.

He clearly needs to find his Zen, stat! Luckily, Po will get an assist from a quick-witted fox named Zhen (voiced by the delightful Golden Globe winner Awkwafina).
