Antonio Dawson from Chicago P.D. Is a Familiar Face on La Brea Now

Jon Seda, who played a cop in the One Chicago franchise, has a new life as Dr. Samuel Velez on La Brea.

By Megan Lasher

The One Chicago universe regularly has crossover episodes—in which characters from Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Med interact in exciting ways—but the Chicago spillover doesn't end there. Jon Seda, who starred in six seasons of P.D., is a familiar face on NBC for more than just his detective skills.

How to Watch

Watch Chicago P.D. Wednesdays at 10/9c on NBC and next day on Peacock.

Seda can currently be seen in the hit sci-fi drama La Brea as one of the characters who's quite literally been blasted into the past.

Revisit all of Seda's powerful NBC roles—alongside highlights and behind-the-scene footage—below.

Jon Seda as Antonio Dawson on Chicago P.D.

Seda played the character of Antonio Dawson in Seasons 1 through 6 of Chicago P.D., from 2014 to 2019. Dawson was the right-hand-man to Sergeant Hank Voight (Jason Beghe), often stepping in to lead the team when Voight wasn't able to.

Seda's character was also a bridge between two shows: Dawson was the brother of Chicago Fire's Gabriela Dawson (Monica Raymund), making him the ex-brother-in-law of Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer), too.

Dawson proved himself to be a nuanced, sometimes polarizing character and natural-born leader before ultimately leaving Chicago to move to Puerto Rico in order to recover from a painkiller addiction. His final season on the show was riddled with complex storylines, like fighting with Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) over how to handle a case in the midst of battling for leadership on the team.

Dawson made countless cameos in fellow Chicago shows Chicago Fire and Chicago Justice—but he also made an appearance in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit in Season 17, Episode 14 ("National Manhunt").

In the episode, Dawson is sent by Voight to help Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) investigate a suspect who claims he left remains on a Chicago beach. The perpetrator ultimately escapes with another convict, sparking a manhunt that requires both teams to collaborate.

After his Chicago P.D. character left, Seda quickly returned to the NBC universe to star in the sci-fi drama La BreaThe show centers around a family that is separated when a massive sinkhole opens in the middle of Los Angeles, catapulting half of the family to 10,000 B.C. while the other half remains in current-day L.A.

Seda's character, Dr. Samuel Velez, is one of the Angelenos who fell into the sinkhole and ended up assisting many of the other victims in the aftermath. Dr. Velez had served in the U.S. Army before becoming a doctor, and fell into the past with his daughter, Riley.
