On July 18, the America's Got Talent Season 11 winner took to her official Instagram page to share a recording of her singing a new tune that she wrote herself. In the clip, she filmed herself in black and white while she sang the reflective lyrics with passion.

"I'm not going out tonight/ I'm hanging out with the light / I talk to myself through the night, discuss all my voices and how they hide," she crooned in a husky tone while playing some gentle high piano notes. Then, the angelic backup vocals kicked in as she sang "You don't need me like I need you / if you'd ask you'd hear...," her voice trailed off with some heavenly vibrato.

She switched things up, adapting an indie tone with her voice for the pre-chorus. "I hate my summers, and I hate my friends / I bite my tongue again and again/ I listen to stories and they never end / got so many boyfriends, but got no damn friends," she sang.

For the second verse, she picked up the intensity, riffing softly. "So I'll just wait by my phone and wait for the light / I got so much to say, I still say its fine / Cause everyone seems like they don't got time / its so interesting how you seem to hide when you don't need me," she sang.

According to VanderWaal, the song has a deep personal meaning, and she opened up about the introspective lyrics.

"Hi my piano literally broke in the middle of recording this. I wrote this song about feeling like you need to constantly perform for the people around you and not having those real intimate friendships you always see in the movies. I felt like I was treating everyone around me more like a boyfriend dynamic rather than a friend. Out on Friday, I love you all.🖤," she explained in the caption.

Keep your ears peeled for VanderWaal's awesome new song that'll be released July 21, 2023.

Vanderwaal is currently working with some of the biggest stars in Hollywood, as she is set to have a role in the upcoming film Megapolis, which will be directed by the one and only Francis Ford Coppola. Excitingly, her co-stars also include Adam Driver and Aubrey Plaza.

In an interview with Deadline, Coppola himself opened up about working with the cast. "This is a beautiful film and primarily so because the cast is so great. I’ve never enjoyed working with a cast who are so hardworking and so willing to go search for the unconventional, to come upon hidden solutions. It is a thrill to work with these actors and the photography is everything I could hope for," he told the outlet.
