9 Things You Didn't Know About Returning Voice Coach Gwen Stefani

The Voice Season 22 will return this fall with Coaches Blake Shelton, John Legend, returning Coach Gwen Stefani, and newbie Camila Cabello

Of course, Stefani and Cabello are music icons, but fans may not be familiar with their respective Voice histories. Stefani was a Voice Coach for Seasons 7, 9, 12, 17, and 19 of the show. Cabello, meanwhile, was an Advisor for Team Legend in Season 21.

As we anticipate their new season of The Voice, we're looking back at Stefani and Cabello's lives and careers, Read on to learn some seriously interesting facts about the "Hollaback Girl" herself, Gwen Stefani. 

1. Gwen Stefani started her signature red lip in high school. 

Stefani's red lip look started when her grandmother gifted her a red lipstick as a teenager. 

2. Before her solo career, Gwen Stefani dominated Top 40 with her band, No Doubt. 

Stefani got her start as the lead singer of the '90s and early-2000s band No Doubt. We can thank Stefani for bringing us timeless bops like "Don't Speak," "Just a Girl," and of course, "It's My Life."

3. Gwen Stefani met her husband, Blake Shelton, as a fellow Coach for The Voice. 

Stefani met Shelton in 2014 when they were Coaches on The Voice Season 7. The pair officially tied the knot in June 2021. 

4. Gwen Stefani has an affinity for the color yellow. 

Anyone who remembers the music video for "Hollaback Girl" might recall the bright yellow colors used for the car and outfits. Stefani loves the color yellow because it makes her happy. In an interview with makeup artist Kandee Johnson, Stefani explained that while she keeps colors pretty minimal for her makeup looks, she loves turquoise and yellow shades the most. 

5. Gwen Stefani's favorite film is The Sound of Music. 

The hills are alive with the sound of Stefani's favorite movie, which is 1965's The Sound of Music. In the same interview with Johnson, Stefani revealed that while she doesn't usually rewatch movies, she can easily put The Sound of Music on repeat.

6. Gwen Stefani's first penned track ended up on Barack Obama's playlist. 

While Stefani has many bops under her belt, the first song she had a part in writing was No Doubt's "Different People" on Tragic Kingdom. The song made its way to one of Barack Obama's famous Spotify playlists. 

7. Gwen Stefani is a featured Artist on a Prince album.

Stefani is no stranger to working with larger-than-life music legends, but one of her top collaborators is undeniably Prince. The talented pair came together for the song "So Far, So Pleased" on Prince's Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic album in 1999. Prince was also featured on the No Doubt track "Waiting Room" for the 2001 album Rock Steady.

8. Gwen Stefani's first job as a teenager was at Dairy Queen.

As a teenager, Stefani started making money while working at Dairy Queen. While she enjoyed the ice cream, she eventually left that job to work as a Makeup Artist at a department store.

9. Gwen Stefani rarely uses a Makeup Artist, which led to the creation of her makeup line GXVE Beauty. 

Despite consistently serving stunning looks, Stefani said in an interview with Glamour that she has rarely ever used a Makeup Artist throughout her long-running career. Stefani's passion and talent for makeup led her to create her makeup line GXVE Beauty in May 2022.
