Jet, apparently worried that the affair she'd had with the married Reyes was the cause of him taking leave from work, asked, “Is this because of us?" Reyes responded: “No, this is because of me. Tammy and I haven’t been good for a while, and when Jamie died, I went off the rails.” (Reyes was referring to Detective Jamie Whelan, who died in Season 3.)

Reyes added that the therapist recommended by Sergeant Ayanna Bell (Danielle Moné Truitt) was helping him, “but being here isn’t.”

He added, “I signed the divorce papers this morning. It’s been unofficial for months. But now it’s real. And my kids, they don’t get it. I need to be with them. And try to put myself back together while I’m at it.”

After Reyes spilled what's going on in his life to Jet, she admitted, “I’m not good at the emotional heart-to-heart stuff, so I don’t know what to say other then to ask if there’s anything I can do.”

Reyes responded, “I could use a friend when I get back.”

Jet promised, “I’ll be here.”

What happened between detectives Bobby Reyes and Jet Slootmaekers?

It was revealed earlier in Season 4 of Organized Crime that Jet and Reyes had been having a secret affair. At the end of the season premiere, Jet opened her door to find Reyes standing in the hallway.

In Episode 2 of Season 4, it came to light where Jet and Reyes first hooked up — while away for the memorial service of their late colleague, Detective Whelan.

At the office, Reyes confronted Jet about their relationship, which she did not want to discuss at the time. “If we hadn’t been in D.C. for Jamie’s memorial, this never would’ve happened,” she said. “You’re married, and I care too much about you to ruin your life.”

The distance between the two grew larger when they were partnered up in Episode 3. During a case briefing, Bell asked Jet to work with Reyes to track down a lead on a guns-for-hire investigation. Jet tried to get out of working with Reyes and told Bell she was pursuing another angle of the case, but Bell insisted they work together.

“Are you okay?” Bell later asked. “Because you haven’t seemed okay since you got back from Whelan’s memorial in D.C. Neither has Reyes. Listen, these things happen, no judgement here. But when it starts to get in the way of work, then it becomes my problem, and I’ve got enough problems.”

The sergeant then asked Jet to "handle it."

It's unclear how long Reyes will be on leave from work.
