By Elisabeth Ford

Season 4, Episode 6 of Law & Order: Organized Crime gave fans a look into a major investigation that brought the Organized Crime Control Bureau to new places, working with new people. But there was one team member missing throughout the episode: Sergeant Ayanna Bell (Danielle Moné Truitt).

How to Watch

Watch Law & Order: Organized Crime Thursdays at 10/9c on NBC and next day on Peacock.

While Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) and the rest of the detectives in the squad focused on finding a serial killer on Long Island, New York, Bell was missing from the action.

The episode took viewers to the coast of Long Island, where Stabler has been helping a local police chief piece together an investigation into a series of murders of young women found buried near the shore.

While Stabler stayed on Long Island — missing a meeting with internal affairs about his suspension — the rest of the team initially worked closely on the case from their New York City office. Detective Jet Slootmaekers (Ainsley Seiger) managed to hack into the local medical examiner's files on the victims. When she became upset and had to step away, Bobby Reyes (Rick Gonzalez) took a look at what was on Jet's screen.

When Captain Nazanin Shah (Nicole Shalhoub) noticed the pair were up to something and Jet admitted she'd hacked into the server, Shah told her she shouldn't have, telling them it's not their case. But Jet told Shah she was wrong, reminding her that two years ago, Stabler help save trafficking victim Rita Lasku, one of the women killed on Long Island.

Captain Shah eventually told Jet and Reyes they could continue investigating the case and do everything in their power to find out who is responsible for the murders.

Where has Sergeant Ayanna Bell been on Law & Order: Organized Crime?

Captain Shah's leadership at the Organized Crime Control Bureau in Season 4, Episode 6 was a reminder of the absence of the team's regular leader, Sergeant Bell.

For fans wondering where she was, Bell was shot by an informant's son in Episode 4 while the squad was tangled up in a shootout with members of the Los Santos gang. The team was trying to protect the informant and her two kids.

Bell's been seen cooped up in a hospital bed recovering ever since, but was MIA from Episode 6. It was made clear at the end of Episode 4 that Bell was alive and would likely be okay, but that she'd need to stay in the hospital for some time to recover.

In Episode 5, the sergeant appeared in hospital scenes looking alert, sitting up in bed and joking with her team.

Jet, Reyes and Stabler all took time to visit her in the hospital. Stabler asked Bell how she was doing, pointing out that the mental affects of being shot can sometimes be harder to heal than the physical.

“Sometimes it can stay in your head there for a little while,” he told her.

“Spoken from experience?” she replied.

While Bell wasn’t seen in Season 4, Episode 6 of Law & Order: Organized Crime, she's likely still on the road to recovery, and unable to join her detectives on their big case at the moment.

To stay updated on Bell’s recovery, watch Law & Order: Organized Crime on Thursdays at 10/9c p.m. on NBC, or stream episodes the next day on Peacock.
