Mandy Moore Looks Back on 6 Years of Rebecca Pearson: 'What a Gift'

The actress has played the Pearson family matriarch since 2016.

By McKenzie Jean-Philippe

After six years—and with the This Is Us series finale unfortunately approaching—it's time for Mandy Moore to say goodbye to Rebecca Pearson.

How to Watch

Watch This Is Us episodes on NBC.

The actress has masterfully portrayed the Pearson family matriarch through all the stages of her life—from a young mother of triplets to, now, a grandmother of seven. And she's gained invaluable wisdom from the adored character.

"I have unending gratitude for Rebecca Pearson," Moore says. "What a gift to play this woman from her early adulthood to the very end of her life. She's just set this gold standard for the kind of parent I hope I can be."

Sadly, we know Rebecca's story ends with her succumbing to Alzheimer's Disease—but through various time-jumps and storylines, we've seen her battle everything from the grief following Jack's (Milo Ventimiglia) death to finding love again with Miguel (Jon Huertas) and healing broken relationships with The Big Three.

Through it all, Moore explains, Rebecca has come out better.

"Every single character on our show is really trying their level best to be the best version of themselves," she says. "Rebecca is really no exception. Even though she's human and she's fallible, I think Rebecca is—she's doing it right."

This Is Us airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on NBC. Catch up on the show right now on NBC.com and the NBC app
