By Jessica White

Season 25 of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit is jam-packed with thrills and courtroom chaos. Captain Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) excels in seeing justice served as she and her squad heroically tackle every case that comes their way.

How to Watch

Watch Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Thursdays on NBC and next day on Peacock.

Season 25 boasts several nods to SVU's sprawling tenure, this week throwing it back to one of Benson's most valiant investigations: her Season 7 rescue of Maria Recinos (A.K.A. the episode that scored Hargitay her 2006 Emmy). Benson has saved dozens — hundreds — of missing children in her time, but viewers will agree: that 911 call had everyone on the edge of their seats.

Read the official logline for this week's SVU episode, below:

Season 25, Episode 7 ("Probability of Doom"): "When a woman turns her husband in for possessing child pornography, the case is complicated by a sudden death; Benson tries to reconnect with a victim she saved."

The episode kicked off with a nostalgic flashback from Season 7, Episode 3 ("911"): Benson was just about to leave the precinct to go on a date when Captain Donald Cragen (Dann Florek) flagged her down to listen in on a mystifying 9-1-1 call from a young girl named Maria who claimed to be kidnapped. Benson's colleagues shrugged it off as a prank call, but Benson took the situation seriously, accurately suspecting Maria's fear was real, and that she needed help. Forced to keep the young Maria on the line to get details of her location, Benson was able to track her down and deliver Maria to safety.

As Benson recounted the ordeal in therapy, it was clear Maria's case was top of mind. It's been over a decade since Benson saved Maria, but after realizing she had no idea what happened to her over the years, it began to give her overwhelming anxiety.

Benson decided to look up Maria, learning she was a 2024 graduate of the New York Police Academy, likely following in her savior's footsteps. After stopping by her house for check-in, the now-adult Maria rushed in for an emotional hug. It was an embrace Benson needed after being unsure of how Maria's life turned out after her harrowing tragedy.

What was the main case on Law & Order: SVU this week?

The SVU always takes child assault cases seriously, so Benson and her squad hit the ground running after catching wind of a pedophile collecting child pornography. However, after arriving at the predator's home with a warrant, the SVU discovered their perp murdered and methodically chopped into pieces.

Suddenly, a child pornography case turned into a murder investigation. Soon enough, an additional mutilated body was discovered, escalating the situation into a serial killer case. Benson eventually tracked down the young girl named Nina, whom one of these murdered men visited in the park. This led the SVU to the Brock family's doorstep to speak with James Brock.

However, only his daughters Tori and Nina Brock were home. Despite the SVU's attempt to find James, his faraway job complicated matters. But a new body found in the harbor upped the ante — especially as they realized it was the body of James Brock. After inspecting the body and noticing hesitation marks from the murderer, Benson's intuition took the steering wheel. The serial killer was a member of the Brock family.

Cut to Tori Brock's arrest, where it didn't take long for the truth to come to light. Tori was repeatedly sexually abused by her father as a child, and as Nina grew older, she suspected her sister would fall victim to the same fate. Tori began targeting pedophiles, hunting them down, and murdering them. This crusade included her father. Tori was sent to prison for a long time, but the gripping circumstances surrounding the case haunted Benson following the investigation.

Maria Recinos (Dani Montalvo) appears in Season 25 Episode 7 of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
