Watch the SNL Sketch That Has Ben Stiller Calling Mikey Day an "All-Time Great"

The pretaped "Home Videos" sketch from Dakota Johnson's January 27 Saturday Night Live episode earned a shoutout from Season 14 cast member Ben Stiller.

Host Dakota Johnson's January 27 Saturday Night Live episode delivered plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, from her brutal roast-off with Please Don't Destroy to musical guest Justin Timberlake teaming up with Jimmy Fallon for a 2024 installment of the "Barry Gibb Talk Show." And one particular sketch from the evening earned a shoutout from a well-known former cast member: Ben Stiller.

How to Watch

Watch Saturday Night Live Saturdays at 11:30/10:30c on NBC and next day on Peacock.

"This is such a funny sketch. Everyone in it," Stiller wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, on January 28. "And Mikey Day is an SNL all time great."

The sketch Stiller shared was "Home Videos," a pretaped sketch in which a young man (Andrew Dismukes) finds a box of old VHS tapes and asks his parents (Mikey Day and Host Dakota Johnson) if he can watch one. The family gathers around the TV with grandma (Sarah Sherman) to revisit old little league games and birthday celebrations.

Then Dismukes' character discovers a tape that, as Day's character describes it, "is the day I found out I was gonna be a daddy."

Things turn from sweet to salty when it turns out that moment was a paternity test on Corey, a parody of Maury—revealing a very different version of Mom and Dad from the early 2000s.

Mikey Day on Saturday Night Live

Mikey Day plays a dirtbag-turned-dad SNL's "Home Videos" sketch

"We owe a lot to that good man," Day's character tells his son in present day, referring to James Austin Johnson's TV host character, Corey. We then cut to Day on the show dressed in an oversized button-down and...period-accurate facial hair and Caesar haircut, as he points to Johnson's character and calls her a name.

Soon, the other possible daddy emerges (Marcello Hernández), slamming Day's character into the talk show set wall. "That's why you need a cane?!" his son asks on the couch, shocked after seeing his grandmother in the footage too. Oh, and there's a twist at the end.

When was Ben Stiller on Saturday Night Live

Stiller was a Featured Player on SNL during Season 14 in 1989, alongside fellow cast members Mike Myers, Dana Carvey, Phil Hartman, Jan Hooks, Jon Lovitz, Kevin Nealon, Victoria Jackson, and Nora Dunn.

The son of comedians Anne Meara and Jerry Stiller, Stiller went on to make his own sketch comedy show, The Ben Stiller Show. While it only lasted one season, you may recognize the names of some people involved: fellow SNL alum Jeanine Garofolo, Better Call Saul star Bob Odenkirk, and director Judd Apatow.

Despite his brief tenure as a cast member, Stiller would go on to host twice in 1998 and 2011 in addition to many cameos over the years.
