New Amsterdam's Executive Producer Teases What Max Will Do Without Helen

After that shocking Season 4 finale, a lot is up in the air for Sharpwin.

One of the biggest shockers of the New Amsterdam Season 4 finale was Max Goodwin's (Ryan Eggold) non-wedding to the love of his life, Helen Sharpe (Freema Agyeman).

That's right, Sharpe left Goodwin standing alone at a makeshift alter on the New Amsterdam rooftop as she called him—all the way from London—to tell him she couldn't go through with their nuptials.

So, where will that leave Max in Season 5 in the wake of such a life-changing event?

“The right thing at the wrong time ceases to be the right thing anymore,” executive producer Peter Horton teased to TV Insider. “This is a theme Max will have to wrestle with in his relentless longing for Helen, as he strives to keep himself, Luna, and New Amsterdam on track.”

NBC also released a synopsis teasing what's to come for both Max and the rest of the doctors: “Max and the team will forge ahead with optimism and a renewed commitment to their own lives— reaching for more joy and forging deeper connections with the people they love.”

That sounds like good news to us. Because considering where we left some of our favorite characters—Reynolds (Jocko Sims) confronting his father, both Bloom and Iggy going through breakups—they're gonna need all of the joy they can get.
