Kara Killmer Reveals Why Brett Didn't Move to Portland With Casey on Chicago Fire
The Season 10 finale revealed the couple could be headed for a breakup.
Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer) and Sylvie Brett's (Kara Killmer) relationship was on shaky ground when we last saw them in Chicago Fire's Season 10 finale.
The Stellaride wedding marked the first time fans saw both Brett and Casey in a few episodes. Remember: Casey left Chicago during the series' 200th episode to move to Portland, and Brett took time off after Season 10, Episode 15 to visit Casey after long distance was becoming a bit overwhelming. But in the finale, Brett revealed that living across the country from one another was taking its toll, leading fans to believe the couple may be headed for a breakup in the next season.
"You made a beautiful life for yourself in Oregon, Matt," Brett said. "But it's your life, not mine. My 51 family is here. My work is here, my life is here. How much longer can we keep this up with so much time apart?"
In an interview for NBC, Killmer shed some light on why her character made the choice not to move to Oregon with her boyfriend, reflecting on a throwback Chicago Fire scene. And spoiler alert: It's because of Casey.
"There was a scene in Season 8 when we're all in a different firehouse, and I remember there was an exchange between Brett and Casey where she talks about how 51 is different and how everyone doesn't do a good job of following the rules of leaving the work behind," the actress said. "They always kind of take work with them and they go the extra mile to make sure that the victims are OK... Casey is a little extra that way. So I think it's kind of interesting that even though Sylvie is at this crossroads of having to make a decision to move with Casey or stay and dedicate herself to para-medicine, the reason that she stays is really because of the influence of Casey because he's the one that's led by example time and time again."
Something tells us Casey didn't realize his influence would lead to a potential split, but we'll just have to tune in to Season 11 to find out the couple's fate.
Chicago Fire will return to NBC on Wednesday nights in fall 2022. Watch Season 10 now on NBC.com and Peacock.
