Wyoming's Ryan Charles—a.k.a 'New Boot Goofin'—Is ASC's First Redemption Artist

Viewers aren't ready to take off their boots!

American Song Contest will air its fifth and final Qualifying Round on Monday, April 18. After that, we'll know all 20 Artists advancing to the Semi-Finals, which go for two episodes, 10 Artists per episode. Well, actually, it's 11 Artists per episode—because two previously-eliminated Contestants will have a chance to come back and perform their songs. These are the Redemption Artists, and one has just been revealed. We'll give you a small hint about who it is: New. Boot. Goofin'.

Yes, Ryan Charles from Wyoming—who sang the country-rap tune "New Boot Goofin'" in Episode 1—is coming back to the competition. He'll take the stage during the Semi-Finals with a slightly elevated version of his TikTok-friendly tune. But will his boots take him all the way to the Grand Final? You'll have to wait and see.

Charles' redemption was announced April 18 by ASC Host Kelly Clarkson on her eponymous NBC talk show. "It's amazing," Charles said about how coming back to the competition feels. "For me to come back is a blessing, and I'm pumped up about it."

He continued, "It's crazy to get all the messages and the calls. The crazy support I got from everyone in Wyoming, it's been really cool to see."

As for what his performance will look like at the Semi-Finals, Charles told Clarkson, "We're just 'gonna get back on that stage and we're 'gonna new boot goof and have a good time."

Sounds like a plan. American Song Contest airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
