Seth Meyers Just Revealed a Preview of Late Night's One-Hour 'A Closer Look'

Fans of the popular political news segment are going to love Seth Meyers' October 2 show.

By Samantha Vincenty

It's been five months since Late Night with Seth Meyersmost recent new episode, but that's about to change.

How to Watch

Watch Late Night with Seth Meyers on NBC weeknights at 12:35/11:35c and next day on Peacock.

Late Night with Seth Meyers is coming back on Monday, October 2 at 12:35/11:35c. New episodes will stream the next day on Peacock. The first episode won't feature guests; instead, the first Late Night since May will be a full hour of "A Closer Look."

This is excellent news for those who never miss Late Night's popular segment—particularly since there's been no shortage of material in the show's absence.

Meyers previewed the script for the one-hour "A Closer Look" in an October 2 Instagram post.

"So happy to be back at my desk writing again! Tonight’s show is an hour long CLOSER LOOK that will catch up on the last five months as well as today’s events," Meyers wrote in the caption, which reveals the first few lines of the segment's first act (maybe—we'll have to see if the lines make it to air when the show airs tonight).

"I mean what are the odds that the day we come back a former President is appearing in court? Only 2-1? Huh, I thought they’d be higher…. Shout out to Sal Gentile who turned in an 80 page script last night and Cue Card Wally who just ran out to buy more Sharpies."

As for the sneak peek itself, it's very safe to assume that the "A Closer Look" will zero in on the multiple legal cases involving former president Donald J. Trump, including his October 2 court appearance for a fraud lawsuit brought by the New York Attorney General concerning Trump's businesses.

"I'm not sure what you've been up to over these past five months but I've used the time to reflect and have come to the conclusion that yes, I've been too hard on the guy," the script draft reads. "Who among us isn't under multiple indictments?"

Executive-produced by Lorne Michaels and produced by Mike Shoemaker, the 2023 Emmy-nominated late night show is ready and set to return to NBC with fresh episodes.

Who is the guest on Late Night with Seth Meyers for October 2?

There will be no guests on Late Night's first show of fall 2023, Meyers shared in a September 28 Instagram story. It's all "A Closer Look," as the show has definitely got some major political ground to cover.
