Michael Phelps Welcomes Newborn with Wife Nicole, Shares Cute Pic of Their 4 Boys

The couple welcomed their fourth child, Nico, in January, calling him the "puzzle piece we didn’t know was missing."

It’s official, another Phelps boy has been born! Michael Phelps and his wife Nicole announced that they have welcomed baby number four into the world.

Phelps took to Instagram Tuesday to share what life has been like since the birth of his son, Nico Michael Phelps.

"[Two] weeks in as a family of 6 and we couldn’t be happier,” the retired swimmer wrote in a post with his wife. (You can see the adorable photo here.)

They added: "Someone called Nico the family baby and it’s 100% true. The boys can’t get enough of their newest brother and want nothing more than to love on him, care for him (and mama) and just be near.”

In the joint post, the couple shared a photo featuring their three sons – Boomer, 7, Beckett, 5, and Maverick, 3 – holding their new brother.

“I wasn’t sure what life would be like with a newbie and one more babe … it’s like a puzzle piece we didn’t know was missing,” Phelps ended the post.

When was Michael Phelps’ new son born?

In another recent post on Instagram, the husband and wife shared an intimate photo of a moment with their newborn, captioning it: “@mrs.nicolephelps and I wanna welcome Nico Michael Phelps to the world.”

Nico was born Jan. 16 and has already made a big appearance on social media, with many users joking that he is ready to take on the family legacy in the pool.

“We’re so blessed to be given a 4th child. We’re now a family of 6!,” the couple added.

Phelps started his family at the in the midst of his legendary career in competitive swimming when he married Nicole Johnson in 2016. Their first son, Boomer was able to attend his father’s final Olympic moments at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics, where he won five gold medals and one silver, capping off a streak of dominance that saw him become the most decorated Olympian in history, collecting 28 medals overall, including 23 gold.

Nicole shared the story of how she found out she was pregnant with her fourth baby with TODAY, calling Nico “the bonus we didn’t know we needed.”

“I would have loved to have a daughter for Michael so he could have that father-daughter bond that I experienced growing up,” she said. “But I strongly believe you’re given what you’re supposed to have, and I’m really excited to have another boy.

The couple frequently documents their boys on social media, even dedicating profiles to each of their kids. So, we can all anticipate a new page for Nico!

What’s next for the Phelps fam?

Since retiring, Phelps seems to be spending his days with his family. As for his kids? The world is waiting to see if they will take part in their dad’s legacy and eventually dominate the Olympic swimming pool at some point in the future.
