Dr. Dean Archer Got an Unexpected Date with [Spoiler] on Chicago Med

Fresh off a kidney transplant, Dr. Dean Archer (Steven Weber) seemed like he's ready to start dating again on Chicago Med

By Caitlin Schunn

With his health back on track after a kidney donation from his son, Dr. Dean Archer (Steven Weber) seemed ready to explore a new challenge on Season 9, Episode 7 of Chicago Med: dating.

How to Watch

Watch Chicago Med Wednesdays at 8/7c on NBC and next day on Peacock.

It all started when the doctor was out celebrating his son Sean Archer’s (Luigi Sottile) one-year anniversary of sobriety. They were joined by Dr. Hannah Asher (Jessy Schram), Dr. Crockett Marcel (Dominic Rains) and others, including Margo, Sean’s boss at the rehab facility where he now works.

“I actually have a lot of ‘thank yous,’” Sean said after Margo brought out celebratory cupcakes and congratulated him on his achievement.

“I’m grateful for so many things," he added. "My dad’s health. That the kidney transplant was a success. Now I have something to hold over him every time he’s too busy for a Cubs game. Margo, thank you so much for the opportunity to work at your center and help others struggling with addiction. I have such an incredible group of people in my corner. And I figure if I’m anything like you, Dad, I’m moving in the right direction.”

When Archer offered to help Margo clean up, she brought up the Chicago Cubs and flirted a bit, but Archer either didn’t pick up on it or ignored it.

Hannah called Archer out on his feelings for Margo

At least one person has noticed that Archer and Margo seem to be into each other: Hannah.

And she called him out on it after he brought up her own apparent crush.

After spotting Hannah at work staring dreamily at Dr. Mitch Ripley (Luke Mitchell), another one of their colleagues at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center, Archer cracked: “Hey, you want me to pass a note to Ripley from you after recess?” (Ripley suggested in an earlier episode that Hannah quit online dating and try to find someone to connect with "in real life.")

“Please, you’re one to talk,” Hannah told Archer. “I saw you flirting with Margo last night.”

When Archer told her she was imaging this, Hannah added, “You could do so much worse. She’s smart. And funny. And sweet.”

But Archer, who is still rebuilding a relationship with Sean after not speaking to him for 15 years due to his struggles with addiction, said he didn’t want to rock the boat by dating his son's boss.

“Sean’s boss? I don’t think he’d appreciate seeing me around the office,” Archer said to Hannah. But Hannah insisted that Sean would likely be okay with it, and told Archer, “I think he would be happy if you are.”

Archer shut the conversation down when he responded to Hannah, “I’ll keep that in mind — if I’m ever actually looking for a date.”

Dr. Archer and Margo set a date on Chicago Med

The conversation with Hannah apparently stayed on Archer’s mind, and he took a bold step when he ran into Margo while leaving the hospital after work, as she was headed in to visit one of her residents who was being treated there.

Archer initially didn't have much to say, but when Margo started to walk away, he called after her.

“Hey, Margo — I was wondering if you, uh, ever want to go out some time?,” he blurted out.

“Yeah, I would. So why don’t you call me and we’ll make a date,” she responding, setting up what may be the start of a romance between the two.
