Why Heidi Compared 12-Year-Old Alfie Andrew to Adele After His One Direction Cover

This kid is going far! The AGT 18 youngster impressed the Judges and audience with his lovely vocals.

It's gotta be scary to perform a One Direction song in front of Simon Cowell, who just happened to help create the mega-popular boy band. Which makes it even more impressive that at just 12 years old, vocalist Alfie Andrew gave such a stirring performance of the boy band's ballad "You & I."

How to Watch

Watch the Season 19 premiere of America’s Got Talent Tuesday, May 28 at 8/7c on NBC and next day on Peacock

The youngster came all the way from the UK with his aunt to sing on America's Got Talent Season 18, and after this performance, he got lots of praise from the Judges, including Cowell saying he'd gotten "goosebumps." Howie Mandel called him the "best Act of the night" at the time, and Heidi Klum even compared him to Adele.

"Your voice is so large, such range, it has personality," Klum said. "It's so banging loud, I'm sure all of you in the backseats heard it. You are incredible."

Andrew first impressed the Judges, and the audience, when he sang Lady Gaga's "Hold My Hand" from Top Gun: Maverick at his audition. Somehow, the song suited him perfectly.

Back home, Alfie's family revealed just how much their boy making it to national television meant to them, sharing some of their story in an emotional Instagram post ahead of his Live Show episode.

"Well todays the day🎙️ and we’ve not slept we’re that nervous for Alfie, but if you know Alfie he’s as calm as calm can be," wrote his parents. "From the moment Alfie was placed in our arms we’ve never felt love quite like we did in that moment. He was beyond perfect. Alfie was a vocal baby 🤣 who liked to cry…………A Lot, but now we believe he was just testing out his vocal chord."

The continued, "By the time Alfie was around 15months old he was already trying to sing and tried to copy singers on the television. In 2016 his video to Hocus Pocus went viral, and Bette Midler saw it too 😍 and commented 'Alfie you nailed it'...Whatever happens on AGT or in the future, our main priority is that Alfie is safe & happy. We love you Alf, to the moon & back. Keep it real, be yourself and show the world what you’re made of🎙️."

Sadly, Andrew was eliminated from the competition in Week 2 of the Live Shows, but it hasn't put a damper on his passion for singing. On September 13, he uploaded a new cover to his YouTube page, singing Olivia Rodrigo's "The Grudge."

On AGT, Andrew cited Rodrigo along with former One Direction singer Harry Styles and Billie Eilish as his biggest inspirations. All stars who started their careers very young. We can see Alfie's ready to hit the ground running! Or in this case, singing.
