What To Know About The Voice's First-Ever Double Chair, Custom Built for Dan + Shay

The dual seating implement will house the show's first-ever coaching duo, Dan + Shay.

By Josh Weiss

When NBC first announced that Season 25 of The Voice would feature the show's first-ever coaching duo, Dan + Shay, we began to sit and wonder how the newcomers would occupy the stage for the upcoming episodes, which will premiere at the end of this month. For instance, would they get their own separate Coach's chairs, or just one mega-bench to share?

How to Watch

Watch The Voice Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c on NBC and next day on Peacock.

We got an answer last July when a still image of the conjoined seat was exclusively revealed during a Today interview with the musical dyad. Now, the network has debuted a new look at the "All-New Double Chair" on X (formerly Twitter) via promotional key art showing Dan + Shay alongside fellow Season 25 Coaches John Legend, Reba McEntire, and Chance the Rapper.

"It’s two chairs, but one button, and they’re actually connected," Dan explained during an interview with Variety this past fall. "It’s kind of one big platform. It’s definitely a spectacle." Two heads are always better than one, of course, but what happens when they disagree? We'll have to wait and see once The Voice Season 25 debuts on February 26!

The chair itself has the same look and feel of the red Coach's chairs fans know and love from the long-running hit, but with the trademark button centered into its own segment designed to split the two smaller seats that Dan + Shay will use to actually, y'know, sit while on the show. As for the button, it's clear there's just one button, so we'll have to wait and see how the duo decides who actually gets to push the button when there's a singer they want for their team.

According to NBC, the chair — which weighs around 900 pounds! — was created by fusing two traditional Coach chairs together atop a single turntable. And speaking of that revolving function, the Double Chair's turntable platter has a 35% larger diameter when compared to the solo iteration. Some other stray tidbits: it features three cupholders, two individually controlled seat warmers, and over 2,500 LED light modules — all of which ready to shine and blink when the duo press their allotted buttons. While there are two Coaches on the team, Dan + Shay aren't afforded any extra steals, blocks, or WE WANT YOU's than their colleagues.

Who Are The Coaches for Season 25 of The Voice?

Dan + Shay — who previously served as mentors under country legend Blake Shelton — are the only Coaching greenhorns amongst the Season 25 roster, which also includes John Legend (this will be his eighth season as Coach) and second-timers Reba McEntire and Chance the Rapper. Gwen Stefani and two-time champion Niall Horan are the outgoing Coaches.

When Does Season 25 of The Voice Premiere?

The Voice Season 25 will premiere Monday, February 26 at 8/7c on NBC. The second premiere episode airs Tuesday, February 27 at 8/7c on NBC. The show will then air Mondays and Tuesdays on NBC at 8/7c and next day on Peacock
