Mariska Hargitay celebrated this New Year's with a bright, festive getup, and we’re totally obsessed.

How to Watch

Watch Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Thursdays on NBC and next day on Peacock.

On January 1, 2023, the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star took to her official Instagram page to show off a stunning silver sparkly coat in a candid snapshot. In the photo, she's seen walking away from the camera in the snow. Her long jacket trailed behind her, glistening in the dark night sky. See the photo here

“Walking into 2023 like✨✨ Happy New Year all!✨✨ let’s get sparkly ✨✨✨” she captioned the post with an abundance of star emojis. “Is that SPARKLY???!!!!” Will & Grace star Debra Messing commented. It sure is! If there's ever an occasion to bust out your sparkliest article of clothing, it's New Year's Eve.

Mariska Hargitay has played Olivia Benson on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit for a whopping 24 seasons. “When I started SVU, very quickly I started to receive a different kind of fan letter. Instead of, you know, ‘I love your show; you’re a great actress,’ it was women and men disclosing stories of abuse," Hargitay said to Access Hollywood. "People started sharing and saying, ‘Your show changed my life,’ and ‘I’ve never told anyone [about my abuse].'"

She continued, "That is the sentence I heard most: ‘I’ve never told anyone.’”

Playing Benson for so many years has even caused Hargitay to sometimes go into "cop mode" in real life. She's listed a time she helped a pregnant woman on the sidewalk as an example.  "I yelled, 'Call 911; get her water.' Then I started going through all of the questions with her that could answer what might be wrong with her. It was completely like an episode of the show," she told Good Housekeeping in 2010.

The show, Hargitay says, has even helped her become a better mom. "It really prepared me for motherhood, because as a cop, you are in charge of any emergency and you need to stay calm, take control, and get the help and the attention you need to fix it. It's the same thing with being a parent," she also revealed to GH
