Kodi Lee Did Some Next-Level Belts Covering "This Christmas" by Donny Hathaway

Who better to bring holiday cheer than Kodi Lee, the ever-upbeat America's Got Talent winner who loves to cover our favorite tunes? In December 2020, Lee released a much-needed dose of Christmas pep in the form of his rendition of "This Christmas" by Donny Hathaway.

In the video, Lee accompanies himself on keyboard and goes all-out with his ensemble: a red onesie, Santa hat, and even fingerless gloves that allow him to play his instrument while still achieving maximum levels of holly jolly. Behind him is a slideshow of towns around the world lit up for the yuletide.

What to know about "This Christmas" by Donny Hathaway

The song was written by Nadine McKinnor in 1968; McKinnor was a Chicago postal worker who made up lyrics to keep herself entertained, and thought "This Christmas" might be a good fit for Andy Williams. However, her boyfriend at the time had a connection to Donny Hathaway, and they were able to get the song to him. Read this Chicago Tribune article for more information. 

Released in 1970, the song has since entered the Billboard charts and been covered by Artists like Diana Ross, Chris Brown, and Patti LaBelle.
