Is Law & Order new tonight, Thursday, March 14?

Season 23 of the beloved legal crime drama continues this week with a new episode of Law & Order, airing March 14, 2024 at 8/7c p.m. on NBC. It will be the first featuring Nicholas Baxter as the new district attorney.

The district attorney’s office already had quite the shake-up earlier this season, when long-time DA McCoy tendered his resignation after a politically-charged murder trial put him at odds with New York City’s mayor.

McCoy decided to step away from the post to minimize the fallout for the rest of the office after pursuing the trial of a wealthy, high-profile rapist and murderer, despite the mayor’s objections.

As a result, leadership of the city’s powerful office will now shift to Baxter.

''Some very large shoes to fill! First episode finished as DA Nicholas Baxter," Goldwyn wrote on Instagram of Thursday’s all-new episode. "Thanks to the L&O fam for being so welcoming!"

Goldwyn isn’t the only newcomer this season. Fans were also introduced to Detective Vincent Riley, played by Reid Scott. Riley is on a redemptive path to prove his value as a detective after an earlier suspension for punching a police captain nearly derailed his career.

Riley was juggling stress at home and had resorted to drinking on the job when the police captain called Lieutenant Kate Dixon (Camryn Manheim) a “sexist” name he shouldn’t have and Riley stepped in to defend her honor, earning himself a six-month suspension in the process.

Today, he’s put the incident behind him and is navigating a new partnership with Detective Jalen Shaw (Mehcad Brooks).
