Halloween aficionados have been beside themselves with glee knowing the scary season starts early this year at Universal Orlando Halloween Horror Nights. As announced in April, the theme park is giving the scares and screams some extra runway by opening the annual event on August 30.

Universal Studios Orlando promises "10 all-new movie-quality haunted houses inspired by cinematic greats and eerie original stories...and five scare zones filled with hundreds of menacing creatures who will reign the streets of Universal Studios Florida."

As always at HHN Orlando, several of their scare houses are bespoke ideas and original concepts that don't have anything to do with existing horror IP. That's right, they're purely original scares! They're just based around some of the most revered horror tropes with a standard HHN twist. Meanwhile, the parks has its spectacular Scare Zones designed to ensure you don't have to walk into one of its haunted houses to soak up the spooky vibes.

Below, NBC Insider will update the rundown of what's been announced for the 2024 season, so check back for new houses and scare zones!

Demon Queens  Scare Zone

Halloween horror nights Demon Queens

With the new Scare Zone, Demon Queens, HHN finally has a space to honor that classic phrase describing female ire: "'Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned." Per the @HorrorNightsORL X account, Demon Queens' description says, "Get caught in an otherworldly hellscape ripped from the darkest corners of your mind, where four merciless queens loyal to SURR3AL rule." We hope these four majesties of the season make us cry in fear.

Duality of Fear  Scare Zone

Halloween horror nights Duality of Fear

When you enter HHN Orlando this year, the very first Scare Zone, Duality of Fear, will make you choose your terrifying path of preference: the visceral horror of SINIST3R or the unearthly terror of SURR3AL. What will each choice serve up in scares? Unknown but it's a devilish way to begin the scare season.

Swamp of the Undead  Scare Zone

Yeehaw! We've got us a Scare Zone (slightly different from a haunted house)! Time to dive into the swamp for the undead. Per the announcement on @HorrorNightsORL on X: "In backwaters Louisiana, you’re about to be swamped by zombies borne from the bodies of trespassers killed and dumped in a nearby bog." Sounds like a clever regional twist on facing our undead nightmare scenarios. Let's hope they leave out the gators. While this isn't a full Haunted House, it sure sounds like a Scare Zone that will delight horror fans.

Torture Faire Scare Zone

Universal Orlando presents: Halloween Horror Nights Torture Faire

Immerse yourself into a world of twisted clowns and devilish performers with Nightmare Fuel: Nocturnal Circus. Per @HorrorNightsORL on X: "Step right up to a dark circus, a new nightmare that carries with it a sinister curse. It’s a thrilling spectacle of pyro and aerialists." Look for stilt walkers, twister circus performers and lots of scares.

Halloween Horror Nights: Nightmare Fuel Nocturnal Circus

What fresh hell is this? Thou shalt not protest as the latest original concept Scare Zone of HHN 2024 at Universal Studios Orlando. Per their announcement, Torture Faire is a renaissance faire inspired area: "Brave the gloriously gory medieval torture devices ‘til you’re put out of your misery."

Don't get too excited about jousting with sharp things, as they've already confirmed that's not happening. But imagine all of the faux maiming and dissection that comes with Medieval good times?

Universal Monsters: Eternal Bloodlines  Haunted House

Halloween Horror Night features Monsters Eternal Bloodlines

The sisterhood of scares get their flowers this Halloween in a brand new, all-original, female-centric haunted house, Universal Monsters: Eternal Bloodlines, at both Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights in Orlando and Hollywood.

The house will set the stage for the ultimate battle between two unexpected alliances of classic female Universal Monsters. Per the official HHN release, "Fans will encounter Saskia Van Helsing, a new fearless huntress and daughter of revered Abraham Van Helsing – who killed Count Dracula by driving a stake through his heart and destroying his reign of terror. Saskia now faces Dracula’s daughter, Countess Marya, who arose from the dead to seek revenge for her father and destroy the Van Helsing bloodline. With a mission to kill, Dracula’s daughter, from 1936’s Dracula’s Daughter, forms a deadly alliance with the She-Wolf, inspired by the 1946 film She-Wolf of London, and Anck-Su-Namun, from the 1932 film The Mummy – only to be intercepted by Saskia and an unlikely ally, The Bride of Frankenstein. The terrifying adventure will take guests on a journey between the hunted and the hunters in a life and death battle with only one bloodline left to survive."

Plus, composer Sara Barone (BBC’s Planet Earth III) will create an original score for this haunted house to elevate the experience for guests.

Insidious: The Further  Haunted House

Universal Studios' Halloween Horror Nights: Insidious

The third dual theme park haunted house of the 2024 season is an original one inspired by the Insidious film franchise: "Insidious: The Further."

Created in collaboration with Blumhouse Productions in association with Sony Pictures, the story will follow the Lambert family who are "haunted by evil supernatural forces" when their son slips into an unexplained comatose state after becoming possessed by a demonic entity.

Per the official Halloween Horror Nights release, visitors can expect to "follow in the footsteps of the Lamberts, encountering familiar settings and scares as they are transported directly into “The Further” – the ethereal place where ghosts and demons lurk. And just like in the films, guests will quickly learn that the paranormal creatures are here to stay… "

To be featured inside both houses will be familiar franchise scares like The Red-Faced Demon, KeyFace, the Bride in Black; and the vengeful spirit of the Man Who Can’t Breathe.

A Quiet Place  Haunted House

Inspired by familiar visuals and set pieces seen in A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place II, this house will be staged in both Universal Studios Orlando and Universal Studios Hollywood. Guests will traverse the creaking floorboards of the Abbott farmhouse including their safe house root cellar. And for the very first time, the haunted houses will incorporate the use of American Sign Language (ASL) which is featured in the films.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire  Haunted House

The second major dual theme park haunted house of the season is Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. Based on the Sony Picture's sequel to Ghostbusters: AfterlifeFrozen Empire will only be the second Ghostbusters themed haunted house from the franchise ever for HHN. It will also celebrate the 40th anniversary of the franchise. This haunted house will place brave visitors inside the New York Firehouse, Ray’s Occult Books shop, the Ghostbuster’s new high-tech lab and containment facility and the dank New York City sewer system.

Slaughter Sinema 2  Haunted House

Clearly a sequel to the HHN house Slaughter Sinema introduced at Halloween Horror Nights 28, Slaughter Sinema 2 is likely to best that original concept with new stakes and scares. Here's hoping this horror sequel will also be set in a drive-in movie theater, which is the perfect place to see any horror film. This one has a lot of creative promise with a new gallery of faux horror films and classic B-movies throughout the house, which means plenty of repeat factor because you'll likely miss a lot running from the threats inside.

Goblin's Feast — Haunted House

Universal Studios Goblin Feast

For those who love a bit of fantasy cosplay and immersive adventure, HHN's Goblin Feast house sounds like Shrek's nightmares come true. Taking guests off the typical horror beaten path, HHN teased the concept as such: "Welcome to the Goblin’s Feast Tavern and visit the goblin village where a lavish feast is being prepared for goblins, orcs, hobgoblins and witches. And you’re the main course." In other words, don't come with an appetite and make sure your laces are tied because YOU are on the menu.

Major Sweets Candy Factory — Haunted House

We all know what happens when a candy-themed activation goes wrong, and this house is an inspired idea riffing on the dark side of a candy maker with the intention of scaring the kids silly. Per HHN, the theme of this house is: "You’ve been invited to chaperone a field trip to a candy factory. The deadly delicious treats turn the kids into sugar-fueled fiends." Watch out for the most frightening sugar rushes of your life!

The Museum: Deadly Exhibits — Haunted House

Universal Studios announces The Museum: Deadly Exhibit

Who wouldn't want to see what's inside the cabinet of Dr. Caligari? Or, catch a peep at the experiments of Dr. Jekyll? The HHN house seems to be alluding to a repository of everything dank and bizarre in the new folklore museum exhibit, The Rotting Stone. HHN teases the threat as, "an evil escapes from within, destroying everything in its path."

The Monsters of Latin America — Haunted House

Universal Orlando Presents: Halloween Horror Nights Monstrous

Come face-to-face with some of these infamous and legendary monsters that children and adults across Latin America have been afraid are going bump in the night for generations. The announcement notes: “With La Muerte as your guide, you’ll be begging for piedad from these three terrifying legends: Tlahuelpuchi, La Lechuza and El Silbón.”

Triplets of Terror — Haunted House

Universal Orlando Presents: Halloween Horror Nights Triplets Of Terror

Needless to say, these aren’t your ordinary triplets. So, it stands to reason their birthday party will be anything but ordinary as well. Get spooked with a cavalcade of blood and gore when the twisted Barmy triplets celebrate by recreating their family's murders.
