Matt lives in a small town in Virginia where growing up biracial and gay was often difficult. Musical theater provided an outlet for Matt to be his true self. At 20, he moved to Houston to join Bayou City Theatrics and jumpstart his career. About a year later, Matt's world was turned upside with news of his mom's diagnosis with breast cancer. He moved back home to be with her as she continues to battle the now-terminal metastatic cancer. Matt currently works part time as a manager at a winery, but has not forgotten about his musical dreams. After auditioning for "The Voice" during Season 1, Matt's persistence paid off and he is excited to finally have his chance to return.
