Tariq Trotter, also known as Black Thought, is a Grammy Award-winning rapper and the lead vocalist of the Philadelphia-based hip-hop group The Roots. He has released 14 studio albums with the group since 1993. Trotter, along with Questlove, produced Hamilton (Original Broadway Cast Recording), the official album of the Tony Award-winning musical. The two also serve as co-executive producers for the AMC documentary series Hip Hop: The Songs That Shook America, which came out in October 2019. Trotter's book, The Upcycled Self: A Memoir on the Art of Becoming Who We Are, is set to be released in November 2023.
