Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter and Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson first formed the American hip hop rap group The Roots in 1987. The group has won three Grammy Awards including Best R&B Album for their 2010 collaborative studio album with John Legend. The Roots have also served as the house band on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon since 2009. Most recently, The Roots’ breakthrough fourth album, Things Fall Apart, celebrated their 20th anniversary with a deluxe reissue in September 2019. Additionally, Questlove and Black Thought serve as executive producers for the upcoming AMC documentary series Hip Hop: The Songs That Shook America, set to premiere in October 2019.
