President Barack Obama was the 44th president of the United States. He was elected in 2008 and reelected in 2012. He previously served in the U.S. Senate from 2005 to 2008 and in the Illinois Senate from 1997 to 2004. Obama is a graduate of Columbia University and Harvard Law School, where he served as president of the Harvard Law Review. In 2009, he was awarded with the Nobel Peace Prize, becoming the fourth U.S. president to receive such an honor. Alongside his wife, Michelle, Obama created the production company Higher Ground Productions and signed a deal with Netflix in 2018 to produce docuseries, documentaries and features for the streaming platform. He has also published four books in his lifetime, and the most recent, A Promised Land, was released in November 2020.
