Sir Ian McKellen is an Oscar- and Emmy-nominated British actor. He is best known for portraying Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies and Magneto in the X-Men franchise. McKellen is also a prolific theater actor, having frequently performed at the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal National Theatre. His other well-known film and TV credits include Six Degrees of Separation, And the Band Played On, Richard III, Rasputin, Gods and Monsters, The Da Vinci Code and Extras. McKellen's most recent work includes the sitcom Vicious and the film Mr. Holmes.
