Emma Thompson is an Academy Award-winning actress. She first gained acclaim for her performance in a pair of 1987 BBC series, Tutti Frutti and Fortunes of War. Thompson won her first Oscar in 1993 for Best Actress in Howards End. The next year, she received dual nominations in both acting categories for The Remains of the Day and In the Name of the Father. In 1996, Thompson took home a Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar for penning the big-screen adaptation of Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility and received an Oscar nomination for her acting performance. Thompson's other notable credits include Love Actually, the HBO miniseries Angels in America, Nanny McPhee, Saving Mr. Banks, the Harry Potter film series, The Children Act and King Lear. Thompson also starred in the films Late Night, Men in Black: International and How to Build a Girl, and on the TV series Years and Years. She can next be seen starring as Miss Trunchbull in Matilda the Musical, which will release on Netflix in December 2022.
