Peter Sarsgaard stars in the new NBC miniseries "The Slap" as Hector, a man on the cusp of his 40th birthday and a year he'll never forget.

Sarsgaard received rave reviews for his performance as death row inmate Ray Seward on season three of AMC's critically acclaimed drama "The Killing." He was seen last year starring in Woody Allen's hit "Blue Jasmine" and opposite Amanda Seyfried in "Lovelace." He also starred in Kelly Reichardt's "Night Moves" opposite Jesse Eisenberg and Dakota Fanning.

He will be seen this year in Edward Zwick's "Pawn Sacrifice," which premiered at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival, as well as French director Alain Choquart's "Lady Grey." Sarsgaard recently wrapped Michael Almereyda's "Experimenter," in which he plays famed social psychologist Stanley Milgram, as well as Scott Cooper's "Black Mass," opposite Benedict Cumberbatch, Sienna Miller and Johnny Depp.

In 2010, Sarsgaard starred in Lone Scherfig's "An Education," where he and the cast were nominated for a SAG Award. Sarsgaard was nominated for a Golden Globe for best supporting actor in the 2003 film "Shattered Glass." The next year, he co-starred in "Kinsey," where he earned Critics' Choice Award and Independent Spirit Award nominations for his supporting role.

Past film credits include "Green Lantern," "Knight and Day," "Orphan," "Elegy," "In the Electric Mist," "Rendition," "Robot & Frank," "Year of the Dog," "Jarhead," "Flightplan," "The Dying Gaul," "Garden State," "K-19: The Widowmaker" and "Skeleton Key."

Sarsgaard first received wide acclaim for his role as John Lotter, the tormenter and rapist in Kimberly Peirce's "Boys Don't Cry." Starring opposite Hilary Swank and Chloe Sevigny, Sarsgaard received critical praise for his searing portrayal of the violent ex-con ill-equipped to deal with a startling discovery.

Sarsgaard also completed a critically acclaimed Anton Chekov run. He first starred opposite Kristin Scott Thomas and Carey Mulligan on Broadway in "The Seagull," and then opposite Maggie Gyllenhaal off-Broadway in "Uncle Vanya." Most recently, Sarsgaard again starred opposite Gyllenhaal in Chekov's "Three Sisters," which was nominated for Lucille Lortel and Drama Desk awards for Outstanding Revival.
