Actor Bio

Thandie Newton stars in NBC's new miniseries "The Slap" as Aisha, Hector's intelligent and successful wife who practices medicine at a New York clinic.

Newton recently wrapped the second season of "Rogue," the first original series for DirecTV, in which she stars as Grace, a morally and emotionally conflicted undercover detective who is tormented by the possibility that her own actions contributed to her son's death.

In 2012, Newton made her stage debut in London's West End, starring in "Death and the Maiden" by Ariel Dorfman. On screen she was most recently seen in Tyler Perry's "Good Deeds" and starred opposite Chiwetel Ejiofor in "Half of a Yellow Sun" based on the book by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

Newton won a BAFTA and Broadcast Film Critics Award in 2006 and was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for her role in the Oscar-winning film "Crash." Other film credits include "The Pursuit of Happyness," "The Chronicles of Riddick," "Mission: Impossible II," "RocknRolla," "W," "Retreat," "For Colored Girls," "Beloved" and box office hit "2012."

On the TV side, Newton has appeared in "ER" and did voiceover work for "American Dad."

Newton is actively involved in the V-Day Foundation, which houses and supports women survivors of sexual violence and provides them with opportunities to develop their leadership skills through innovative programming.
