Actor Bio

Kiran Deol plays Mallory Modi on NBC's new comedy "Sunnyside."

Deol, who is a comedian, filmmaker and actress, has appeared on "How to Get Away with Murder," "The Mindy Project," "Modern Family," "New Girl," "Weeds," "Parenthood," "Grey's Anatomy" and "The Newsroom." She hosted the series "Soul Food" for Vice.com and the documentary series "Spotlight California," and she is a contributor on "Greatest Ever" on TruTV.

Film credits include a lead in the independent feature film "Farah Goes Bang," which debuted at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival and won the first-ever Nora Ephron Prize. As a director, her first film, "Woman Rebel," a documentary about women rebel soldiers, was nominated for an Emmy Award, shortlisted for an Oscar and distributed by HBO. In 2017, she released a short documentary with Sundance Now titled "American Haze."

She can also be heard on the all-female panel podcast from Crooked Media titled "Hysteria."
