Actor Bio

Kirk Acevedo stars as Detective Luisito Calderon, former football player and hard-hitting homicide detective in NBC's crime drama "Prime Suspect."

Acevedo is best known for his Cable Ace-nominated performance as Miguel Alvarez in the drama "Oz," for which he received three Alma Award nominations in a row.

His film credits include the independent feature "5up 2down," the Oscar-nominated Terrence Malick film "The Thin Red Line," as well as "Invincible" opposite Mark Wahlberg.

His role as Private Tella in "The Thin Red Line" earned him an Alma Award for Best Supporting Actor in a film. In addition, Acevedo was in Antoine Fuqua's action drama "Bait" opposite Jamie Foxx and David Morse.

Recently, Acevedo has been seen on television in the hit series "Fringe." Acevedo also starred in the acclaimed miniseries "Band of Brothers," produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks.

Acevedo has impacted audiences on the stage as well as in film and on television. His Off-Broadway performance in Sam Shepard's "Tooth of Crime," directed by Bill Hart, riveted audiences and critics alike, earning him a Drama Desk Award nomination. Additional theater credits include the title role in Travis Preston's production of Bernard Marie Koltes' "Roberto Zucco."

His additional film credits include Ben Younger's "Boiler Room" and the independent films "In the Weeds," "The Visit," "Arresting Gena" and "Kirk and Kerry," a short that won the Jury Prize at the 1997 Slamdance Film Festival.

Acevedo received his B.F.A. in acting from SUNY Purchase in New York.
